MINKA MARIE HEIß
Bild 16. - 20. January 2017

Minka Marie Heiß is one of the most interesting German contemporary dance teachers and choreographers. Although her work is very dramatic and theatrical, it possesses a distinct character of intensive and acrobatic dance. Students love to perform her work – and the audience watches enthusiastically.
In class, Minka is maybe less dramatic, but every movement counts and she is not satisfied unless every single student understands every single step and performs it to perfection.

Minka has been a member of the Iwanson faculty for many years, and for over a decade, she has been creating new works for the students' final performances. Often, Minka's choreographic work reminds you of an opera: her intense, strong, dynamic and acrobatic style always fascinates the audience. On the other side, rehearsals are always a great challenge for the students as Minka demands more than just dance. The dancers have to act and sing and sometimes they use the floor and even their bodies as drums.

In 2007, Minka was awarded the Isadora Prize of the Iwanson-Sixt-Stiftung.
